The Temple of Hadrian and Piazza di Pietra (Piazza of Stone) in Rome

The perfect base to explore Rome is Penthouse Monteverde

This little known square in Rome is called Piazza di Pietra (stone). At few minutes walk from the Pantheon, this beautiful square takes the name from the massive 15 metre high Corinthian columns of the Temple of Hadrian built in 144 AD by his successor Antoninus Pius.

Carlo Fontana, in 1696, under the offices of Pope Innocent XII, merged part of the temple into a bigger building he designed which was meant to house the Central Customs Offices for all the goods imported into Rome.

Nowdays the building is used by the Chambers of Commerce of Rome. Just opposite you can find trendy bars to enjoy a drink before dinner like Salotto 42.
