Correggio and Parmigianino exhibition in Rome

From Saturday (until 26 June) the Scuderie del Quirinale will host the exhibition "Correggio and Parmigianino: Art in Parma in the sixteenth century." Through a selection of masterpieces from the most important museums in the world, the exhibition compares the paths of two absolute stars of the Italian Renaissance, Antonio Allegri called Correggio (1489-1534) and Francesco Mazzola called Parmigianino (1503-1540) . Thanks to the formidable talent of these two artists, the city of Parma became the beginning of the sixteenth century, an artistic center able to fully compete with the great Italian art capitals like Rome, Florence and Venice.

The Scuderie del Quirinale (Quirinal Stables, also called Papal Stables) was built over ten years, from 1722 to 1732 . The Scuderie, together with the Palazzo del Quirinale (Quirinal Palace – official residence of the President of the Italian Republic) and the Palazzo della Consulta (Constitutional Court – originally a villa built upon the ruins of the Baths of Constantine and adapted by Sixtus V as a civil and criminal court), make up a stunning urban space. At the center of the spacious piazza between these three buildings stands an obelisk – moved from nearby the Mausoleum of Augustus in the eighteenth century – atop a fountain and the famous statues of the Dioscuri (the two gigantic Roman marble “Horse Tamers”, Castor and Pollux). The Scuderie stands next to the Colonna gardens and on top of the archeological remains of the great Roman Temple of Serapide – some of which are still visible. The building covers approximately 3000 square meters , over several floors. Wide-open spaces on the second and third floors house the exhibitions. A cafeteria is situated on the mezzanine level and a bookstore, a giftshop and special areas dedicated to exhibition-related initiatives are all on the ground floor.Visit the Scuderie del Quirinale: what a view! 180° of beauty from the highest of Rome 's Seven Hills. The great window, designed by Gae Aulenti as part of an overall restoration of the Scuderie del Quirinale, is one of the site's main attractions. From Piazza Venezia's Victor Emanuel Monument (also known as "Vittoriano" or "Altare della Patria") to the many church domes - in the distance you can even see Saint Peter's – and from the rooftops of the city's historic center to the green backdrop of the Gianicolo Monte Mario and Pincio hills... hundreds of surprises await the visitor as he or she admires the city from on high.

From Penthouse Apartment Monteverde Rome take bus H direction Termini for 11 stops and then walk for 300 meters.

The Macchiaioli at the Cloister of Bramante in Rome from March 16 2016

The scolarina, the Manes in the wind and Pasture in Maremma by Giovanni Fattori, The visit to Villa and Gardens in Piagentina by Silvestro Lega, The Rio at Riomaggiore, the Pascoli a Castiglioncello and the Return from the Capital by Telemaco Signorini are just some of the works of art of the Macchiaioli ready to invade the halls of the Cloister of Bramante in Rome. The exhibition, I Macchiaioli. The collection will open its doors on March 16, fifty years after the great exhibition at the National Modern Art Gallery dedicated to the masters of the macchie (literally "spots"). The style of these artists comes from the method of coloring "the first" and "real" (learned from Giorgione and Titian) and resulted in the work of a group of painters and intellectuals deeply involved in the reality of the second half of the nineteenth: the stain or spot is loaded with new meanings and became a tool for expressing moral tensions, civil and social.

Sting to play in Rome on 27 July 2016

To paraphrase one of his evergreen, we can say that everything he does is magic. Gordon Matthew Sumner, aka Sting, after the tandem last year with Paul Simon, will return in the summer in Italy for three concerts: July 27 at the Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, 28 on the stage of Visarno Arena - Park Cascine in Florence and July 29 to Assago Summer Arena of Milan, in the context of Music Street Art.

With The Police Sting was able to soften the harshness of punk in an unusual rock-reggae, creating masterpieces like Outlandos d'amour, Reggatta de blanc and Synchronicity.

Since 1985 the English artist, who lives several months a year at his villa in Figline Valadarno (FI), continued to reap success as a solo artist, winning 10 Grammys, 2 Brits, 1 Golden Globe, one Emmy, three Oscar nominations , the Billboard Magazine Century Award, and MusiCares Person of the Year in 2004. He is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and in 2014 received the Kennedy Center Honors. During his long career he has sold nearly 100 million albums between albums released with The Police and as a solo.

At the threshold of sixty (he will be 65 next October 2), brought beautifully thanks to a physical athlete, has reinvented the "classical" musician with the album Songs from the Labyrinth in 2006, brave crossover between pop and classical, If on a winter's night in 2009, dedicated to the songs of the English and Irish Christmas tradition, and Symphonicities of 2010, a mix of greatest hits and rare songs from his repertoire rearranged into orchestral key.

Tiber Island, another hidden gem overlooked by Romans

Tiber Island, Isola Tiberina. is a very small island, according to some the smallest inhabited in the world. The island, long a little more than 300 meters wide and not more than 90 emerges from the Roman Tiber river and it is connected to the banks of the Tiber by two bridges: the Cestius bridge to Trastevere, with the central arch which dates from 46 BC. In the direction of the Jewish Ghetto is the Fabricio bridge, built in the 62 BC, called bridge Quattro Capi, for the Roman herms that adorn the edges. It has the shape of a ship, hence the legend that the island is located in the place of a boat submerged.

But there are many other legends about the origin of this small island: one takes us back in 509 BC when, the last king of Rome, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, was ousted by the people and as a sign of hatred towards the tyrant the mob tossed into the Tiber a huge quantity of grain belonging to the king and enough to form an island.

But the best known legend is the one linked to the cult of Asclepius, god of medicine. This would explain the connection, which always existed, between the island and the activity of assistance to the sick. In 291 BC the city of Rome was hit by a terrible plague that claimed many victims and the priests, after having consulted the Sibylline books, sent a delegation to Epidaurus, a place of worship of Aesculapius.

The ambassadors returned to Rome on the ship carrying a snake, an animal sacred to the god. When he was closed to the Tiber Island, as reported by Ovid in Metamorphosis, the snake leaped and at the point where he took refuge it was erected a temple dedicated to Aesculapius and the island itself was made architecturally like a ship. On the ruins of the temple it was later built the church of St. Bartholomew on the Island, which preserves a Romanesque bell tower of the twelfth century and, down the aisle of the church, the temple columns.

The ancient medical traditions of that time did not die out with time. In the Middle Ages the island became a shelter for sick run by monks, and continue to this day. Today the island is home for the hospital "Fatebenefratelli" and the Rome's Israelite Hospital.

This lovely island is very beautiful and it is often overlooked by romans. There are nice cafes and a very good ice cream place.

To reach Tiber Island from Penthouse Apartment Monteverde Rome take tram 8 and get off at Belli stop. Then walk for about 500 meters.

The ring in the stomach

A woman in Rome could not find her wedding ring. She looked everywhere but the ring would not come out. Then one day, she decided that his son, just 14 months, had to have an X-ray. Surprisingly, the ring was right in his stomach. The father has posted on Reddit the photo of the X-ray screen explaining what had happened. The child had swallowed the ring. "Do not be too critical with us - her father writes - is our third child."
And in the comments someone suggested: "One day you will be asked to give a speech at the wedding of your son. I would start with that. "

Porta Portese Flea Market in Rome, 10 minutes from Penthouse Monteverde

Visit Penthouse Apartment Monteverde Rome

Its starts in the early hours on Sunday, vendors from all over  set up stall in Porta Portese Flea Market, which is in the Trastevere area of Rome. They sell everything you can possibly imagine: antiques, brash brass and noisy clocks. You can find 18th century paintings (beware of fakes!), capturing local imagery from times that have long gone by. There is something distinctly Roman about the whole experience. Clothes are for sale everywhere. The smell of Italian leather washes over you as you make your way through alleys of colourful bargains. This is an ideal place to buy gifts for loved ones whilst staying in Rome. But keep your eyes wide open. Although Porta Portese Market is generally a safe place to be, pick pockets are very active on Sunday. There is also plenty of food. But you must start your market first with a 'cappuccino and cornetto' at Cafffe Camerino in Largo Alessandro Toja. Porta Portese Market is easy enough to find. Catch tram number 8 tram from Largo Ravizza near Penthouse Monteverde, four stops down towards Piazza Venezia and you are there. The Sunday market in Rome is very well known. One last point about this wonderful Flea Market in Trastevere is be prepared to haggle with the vendors. If you were impressed by the haggling in places like Morroco and Spain, Romans put them both to shame. Remember to hold your ground and not be defeated, because if you show sign of weakness you will lose the battle and lose out on the bargain that your heart is set on purchasing.
